The title screen of "Fury of the Storm".

Fury of the Storm is the SMW Central 4th placed "Winter Level Design Contest" 2022 entry made by Daizo Dee Von taking place years before Krack The Hack. This entry is interesting in that it includes a character only seen as an extra in the original, but also includes a boss battle with a vocal track as a boss theme ("Go Into The Nightmare").

Story

It's been 2 years since the never-ending storm has started thanks to a Mysticarian Knight known as "Sir Kris". In a near-by house, Larry and Sinemy plan their ultimate attack to stop the fury of the storm.

Once Larry and Kris meet, it turns out she (Kris) started the storm to wipe out the rixzo using extremely cold temperatures. Larry is disgusted by her lack of awareness to the other creatures of the land, which is ultimately why he fights her. At the battle's end, Larry wonders if the Rixzo War is necessary. After Larry walks away, Kris is saved by the Mystical Queen, whom is the opposing leader of the war.

Soundtrack

  • Rixzo's Anthem (Title Screen)
  • Fury of the Storm (Level Theme)
  • Go Into The Nightmare (Boss Theme)
  • War Without Purpose (Ending Theme)

The whole soundtrack can be listened to here, though the lyric in the boss theme is actually synced wrong which was corrected in the public release here.

Reception

Most opinions are good, though confused at first. At this point some streamers aren't putting up with Daizo Dee Von's insistence on his lore, for how little there is in this game (basically skipping all the text at the boss fight), but those who do appreciate the story are intrigued by the secret backstory behind a hidden room as well as the implications on Krack The Hack. The best part of the entry is the boss fight, particularly it's boss song. It's not common at all to have lyrics in an SNES track. The mega-man design is the more questionable part; with the lack of damage frames one judge even thought all enemies were completely invincible, and thus played the whole thing pacifist with their chat complaining that the entry was untested. Other judges and players quickly realized the actual point of Larry's specifically ability "Acid Fire". Others also took issue with the snow effect, claiming that Daizo ignored critique despite the graphic being altered; they wanted it removed despite it ruining the point of the hack's namesake.

Daizo Dee Von has shown interest in expanding the hack to a fuller game (much like ALPHA SPHERE and it's prequel), though only time will tell.
